Day 5 (part 2)

The Crocodile Farm

After the Cairn's Tropical Zoo we headed to Hartley's Crocodile Farm and were greeted by this beautiful fella.

 We went on a tour around the farm and saw the huge tanks full of 100 + crocodiles - yikes!

 we even got to pet a baby crocodile

 and play on one!

 Forest was chosen to be the assistant in the snake show.

 He did a great job demonstrating what to do if you are bitten by a snake.

After the demonstration Forest was asked to stand like a tree.

Before Forest realized what was on him he stood for about 3 seconds with the snake around his neck and was smiling big as can be.  Then, he looked down... you can see in the picture below how he felt about it. (After the show Forest told  us that he thought that the snake was a tire at first)

 Forest was quite the little celebrity the rest of the day.  Everyone kept coming up to him and telling him he did a great job.  He loved all the attention and soaked it all up!

 Once the snake show was complete we headed on a boat tour to spot crocodiles

 and watch them get fed.

 The sound the crocodile teeth make when they chomp is incredible!  It is so loud!  They have some of the strongest jaws in the animal kingdom.

After our boat ride we watched a very entertaining crocodile show.

 All of us were pretty enthralled.  Forest was actually totally scared for the host.  He kept saying, "I can't watch"

I do feel bad for the poor host- what a scary job.

After all the shows were complete we wondered around Hartley's, which was a really pretty zoo. 

We again got to feed more kangaroos and wallabies.

And the best part was we got to see a little joey still in his mamma's pouch!

AWESOME!

 

Day 5 (part one)

Day 5 was a really fun day!  The first half of the day we headed to Cairn's Tropical Zoo.  The zoo was rather small but was really hands on.  We were able to pet and feed a lot of the animals which the kids (and Bridger and I) loved. 

Our first activity of the day was to feed the Australian Pelicans.

We have been to a lot of zoo's here in Australia but it is still so exciting to see all the unique animals.

 Westly is telling the dingo that he is not his next meal!

The cockatoos are always my favorite to see. I love all the different varieties. The brighter pink one on the right said "Hello" to us.

Bridger captured some great shots of the birds in the bird show.  In the picture with the falcon on the far right, can you spot the food he is about to catch?

The highlight of the day was feeding the many kangaroos and wallabies.

At first both boys were a little cautious of the animals and wanted a parent near by.

but in no time both boys were off by themselves feeding and petting the animals.

 look the kangaroo and Forest are the same height!

 Bridger and I had just as much fun as the kids feeding all the kangaroos.

When we were out of food Westly tried to feed this kangaroo leaves, poor guy.

 He also tried to feed a kangaroo a stick. 

Westly became too comfortable around the kangaroos and right after this picture was taken Westly picked up the kangaroo's tail.  There is no picture of him doing it since I was scrambling to get him away before the kangaroo decided to kick the little nuisance.

We were around the kangaroos  for so long that we started to look like them,

and needed a nap.

These pictures below are of Westly playing with the kangaroo cut-out. 

They are just too cute I can't leave them out.

 Bridger also got to hold a rhino beetle

 and a wombat, his favorite animal.

 alright alright the wombat is not real.

 At each of the animal areas there was a stamp. As you can tell from Forest's arms we saw a lot of animals..

 Forest is letting you know in this picture that you better stay tuned for the next post on the second half of day 5 or you will have to deal with this tough 4 year old!
